Vivian Maier. 1926-2009.
Fascinating story and still very much a mystery. She was a photographer, but was fiercely private and never really shared her work. It wasn't until an unpaid storage unit was sold off to an auction house that approximately 100,000 negative, the majority undeveloped were discovered in 2007. Since then, Maier's photographs have received international attention, although, as far as I can tell, she passed away before she was even aware of the discovery of her photographs. Her photographs are absolutely beautiful and interesting, they remind me of Diane Arbus.
What was she like? Why was she so secretive about her work? Why did she take so many pictures, but not develop the film? I'm intrigued.
