'The London Jungle Book'
Art by Bhajju Shyam
"Bhajju is a brilliant artist from the Gond tribe in central India, and this book is a visual travelogue of his impressions in London. With radical innocence and great sophistication, Bhajju brings the signs of the forest to bear on the city, turning London into an exotic jungle."

The Miracle of Flight - "The heaviest animal I have ever seen is an elephant. So that is the creature that came to mind when I painted the plane. A plane taking off is as much of a miracle as an elephant flying. I have put the trees upside down in the sky, and the clouds below, because flying turned my world upside down."

i also found this one especially touching:

Loyal Friend Number 30 - "Although I liked the underground very much, I still preferred to get to to work everyday by bus, because one stopped right outside my door. I have turned the Number 30 bus into a dog, because like a dog, it was a faithful and loyal friend to me. London buses look very friendly too, and fit in with the good spirit of the faithful dog."

in my dream last night i was somewhere where everybody spoke spanish. i punched some girl in the stomach for littering and ran away. i don't know who she was. all of the police were looking for me, they even sent out the dogs. i couldn't leave town until i found my sister, and then once i found her we decided that we should get ice cream first.

little stinkers

had a dream that i went outside and was standing on the porch when i noticed that something was in the grass. like, the grass was covered in something... i looked closer and what i was looking at were thousands of tiny tiny little skunks. there was a hole in the ground in the corner of the yard by the chain linked fence. all of a sudden everything started rumbling and then there was a giant bang and millions of tiny skunks exploded out of the hole in the ground like old faithful. we took off running away across the field. i was with a big group of friends but can't remember specifically who was there... i turned around at one point while we were running away to see behind us and noticed that Obama was running with us. He was wearing mike goulis' turquoise button down dress shirt. i had the feeling that he wanted to be undercover and wanted people to just think he was a regular guy, so i didn't want to give away that he was the president, so as we were running i just turned around, smiled and waved at him and said "what's up man? how's it going?". we were running towards a city where all of the buildings were like a mile tall and skinny like a pencil. they were so big, but instead of looking like skyscrapers, they looked like ancient ruins, made of giant old stones. none of them were completely straight, they were all at slight angles.

this bowerbird obviously prefers the color blue.

The most notable characteristic of bowerbirds is their extraordinarily complex courtship and mating behaviour, where males build a bower to attract mates. In and around the bower the male places a variety of brightly colored objects he has collected. These objects — usually different among each species — may include hundreds of shells, leaves, flowers, feathers, stones, berries, and even discarded plastic items, coins, nails, rifle shells, or pieces of glass. The males spend hours arranging this collection. Bowers within a species share a general form but do show significant variation, and the collection of objects reflects the biases of males of each species and its ability to procure items from the habitat, often stealing them from neighboring bowers. Several studies of different species have shown that colors of decorations males use on their bowers match the preferences of females.

pin hole camera, 6 month exposure, by justin quinell

"One of the many qualities of pinhole photography is its ability to capture time durations of beyond our vision. Usually this is in the range of a few seconds, but by combining old and new technologies, it is possible to achieve exposures of far greater duration. I have always been fascinated with astronomy, its immense scales of space and time reaching far beyond comprehension within our own short instances on Earth.

The project was to record views of Bristol, with the sun trailing across the sky from the winter solstice (22nd December) to the summer solstice (the 20th of June). The technique is not new. Several people are currently doing similar work. Paolo Gioli in Italy and Tarja Trygg in Finland are both experts in this area. I just wanted my hometown of Bristol to be imaged in this way. Accessible wonder is all the reason I need.

Most of the cameras survived 6 months of wind, rain, hail (and being thrown in the bin!). Several were blank; one was full of water, (the emulsion on the photographic material having floated off.) and one, still exposing, currently sits inaccessibly under 10 foot of bramble, waiting forever to be recovered."

buzz kill

having moving anxiety dreams even though i've already survived that ordeal... we had to be out of the apartment immediately, like, within minutes but hadn't moved anything out yet. we were so high up that looking out the window we were in the clouds and there was no elevator and the only people there to help were senior citizens. i remember wondering who the hell were they and how the hell did they get there. i was frustrated because they were just standing around not doing anything. i grabbed a broom and decided to sweep off the dining room table - which was a giant enclosed box. it still had table legs in the corners, but there were screens in between the legs creating a box. you could tell that it was filled with stuff, but it was so packed and so caked with dirt that nobody could tell what was in there. i was frantically sweeping it off when i accidentally poked a hole into the screen. a swarm of bees flew out of it and attacked me.
